According to researches, job burnout is most likely to be found out in helpingprofessions. The teaching profession is a typical one, and teachers had become one ofthe high-risk groups suffering from job burnout. It can not be neglected that it hadcaused great influence on teachers’ physical and mental health as well as someunavoidable professional troubles, so the risk of the job burnout became a stumblingblock in teacher professional development. The present paper shows that universityteachers are performers of educational enterprise, and it is quite meaningful to preventand stop job burnout from happening from aspects of teacher professional development,higher education enterprise and social development.Combined with reality, it puts forward the job burnout countermeasures under theguidance of Deng Xiaoping Theory, Three Represents and Scientific Outlook onDevelopment. It investigates into the status quo of local university English teachers’ jobburnout and aims to advance scientific and sustainable development of local universityas foothold and use higher education reformation and development situation asbackground. The research steps are as follows: First, to classify, analyze, screen anddefine the theories and findings of university teachers’ job burnout both domesticallyand internationally. Second, to do the systematic analysis and study of research subjects’job burnout by using questionnaires which aims to be clear about its main expressions,damages and influencing factors. Last, to put forward the countermeasures for the jobburnout of local university English teachers with the theories of teacher professionaldevelopment form perspectives of external environment, internal psychological factorsand so on.The research findings are as follows: First, it is commonplace for local universityEnglish teachers to suffer from job burnout at an intermediate level. Second, theinterrelated contributing factors for job burnout are high professional expectations,heavy working load, internal self-compression, external support loss, etc. Third, thelocal university English teachers are presenters of job burnout, but not ultimatelyresponsible for it. After all, it is a systematic engineering, it needs the overall linkage ofsocial macroscopic aspect, university management aspect and teachers’ personal aspect.
