The quantifiers, which is regarded as ‘Chinese only’, has a centuries-old historyas the Chinese language itself. The Chinese had such records as “when counting things,‘个’(ge) is used; when counting rabbits,‘头’(tou) is used; paper,‘个’(ge) or ‘枚’(mei); carriage,‘辆’(liang), silk,‘匹’(pi) in ancient times. The abundant existenceand use of the quantifiers in Chinese enrich the expressions of Chinese to a very largedegree. It is a typical characteristic of the Chinese language which differs Chinesefrom the other languages, but at the same time it offers the thorny points to the foreignstudents when they learn Chinese and even becomes a bottleneck which influences theforeign students’ Chinese level.Bulgaria has long been known as the “kingdom of roses”, which lies in thesouthwest part of the Balkan Peninsula in Europe. In recent years, with thedevelopment of the relations between China and Bulgaria and the strengthening of thetwo countries’ economic and cultural communication, there are more and more youngpeople in Bulgaria learning English. They are eager to come close to China and knowmore about China, thus, learning Chinese well becomes their first choice. However, for some kinds of reasons, the studies concerning Bulgaria students’ learning ofChinese are rather sparse and detailed researching is even rarer. As a result, thecirculation of Chinese in Bulgaria and Bulgaria students’ passion and learningoutcomes for Chinese study are greatly influenced.Bulgarian, which derives from the south Slavic branch of the Indo-Europeanstock, is the official language of Bulgaria. Actually, there is no classification forquantifiers in the lexical system in Bulgarian. However, from the perspective offunction and meaning, there indeed exist some vocabularies carrying the characteristicof quantifiers, which are only divided into other lexical categories. Thus, a lot ofdifficulties are brought to the Bulgarian Chinese learners due to this generalclassification of the lexical categories and the lack of the corresponding research. With the Chinese learners in the18th middle school and the LUSAI middleschool in Sophia, Bulgaria as its object of study, this thesis firstly tries to find outBulgarian students’ acquisition patterns of the commonly used Chinese quantifiers andtheir common errors; then further analyzes the causes of these errors and thus providescorresponding teaching strategies. The author sincerely hopes that this thesis can be oftheoretical reference to the future Chinese teaching.
