Nowadays, the teaching of the course“Solfeggio and ear-training”plays a significantrole in professional music education in college. Its primary purpose lies in thedevelopment of students’perceptual and understanding abilities of music elements, suchas pitch, rhythm, melody, harmony, mode and tonality, etc. Among these music elements,rhythm, as a form of the motion, is the time shaper and organizer of music. Withoutrhythm, even the most beautiful music would become a heap of messy notes. In otherwords, no rhythm means no music. As a result, it is very necessary for us to reinforcethe training of rhythm and develop the clear and penetrating sensibility of rhythmpurposefully.At the basis of rhythm ontology, this paper discussed a few elements of rhythm indetails with the support of several theories in related works. Further research on thefunctional effects of music rhythm has been done which is based on these subjectsincluding psychology, pedagogy, music aesthetics, music acoustic and so on.Additionally, the specific methods of rhythm training are also discussed in order toprovide some effective suggestions to the teaching implementation and the subjectdevelopment in professional music education today.
