"Forgiveness" is an important subject of Confucianism and also a distinctive essence oftraditional Chinese culture. Throughout history, it has been exist as benevolence, the basicphilosophy to guide our choices in life and will be reflected in the way we conduct ourselves.Although it is not Confucius to bring up and use the word "Forgiveness", it is Confucius whoinherited the thoughts from predecessors and made these thoughts highlighted and systematic.Confucius concept of "forgiveness" is probably best expressed in the Confucian version of theEthic of reciprocity: "Do not do unto others what you would not have them do unto you." And bythis way, the integration of oneself and others can be realized, this shows respect for people,humaneness and dignity, symbolizes that people are conscious of their morals and ethics, andformed the Encompassing Principle. As the basic practice method of Confucius "forgiveness", theessential thoughts are guide people to be self-other oriented and meet the ideal state of moralpersonality, be a moral man and achieve harmony. "Forgiveness" concept does not only light onthe past but also has value that can not be ignored, it is of great significance and importance tobeing as an entry point of moral reconstruction for the current social transformation period.This paper, systematically analyzes the historical background of Confucius "forgiveness"generation, then introduces the basic contents and the importance in Confucianism, andfurthermore, discusses the practical value of "forgiveness" in current international and domesticenvironments. The discussions are present in three parts in this paper:Firstly, the paper analyzes the historical background of "forgiveness" based on the socialrealistic circumstance in the later stage of the Spring and Autumn Period, investigates thehistorical conditions of generation of "forgiveness" from economic, political and culturalprosperity.Secondly, this paper discusses the various implications and Confucius promotion of"forgiveness", and then makes a comparative analysis between "loyalty" and "forgiveness". Basedon the presentation, analyzes the theoretical foundation of forgiveness, which is harmonious, thediscovery of humanity by Confucius, and then the importance of "forgiveness" in Confucianism.Thirdly, the paper investigates the realistic value of "forgiveness". From international perspective, it is the moral gold rule for international affairs, especially essential for peace anddevelopment in current multiplicity world, healthy competition in economic globalization, andthe harmonious coexistence in Multi-cultural background. From domestic perspective, it is thebaseline of morality of individuals, particularly for now, as an entry point of moral reconstructionfor the current social transformation period.
