Since the first half of the last century, with the invention of camera and the rapid development of modern digital media and technology, the Western world gradually get into an age of image explosion. The image culture joint together with the social environment, which is consumerized and commercialized, changing people’s living environment commonly, and then changed people’s visual habits and aesthetic awareness. With the continue advancement and deepen of China’s reform and opening-up, the market economy system made our society beginning to enter the consumer era. At the same time, the rapid improvement of science and technology level have long been making the image culture universalized in our society. The aesthetic vision of people have been occupied quickly by the image culture, thus showing the tendency of entertainment. People who accustomed to image-visual-thinking can’t understand the artistic beauty in realistic painting that makes it become more and more marginalized. In the background of consumer times and image culture, some artist become impetuous and gradually lost the spirit of the art, and blindly imitate the image even copy the image. There is a series problems shown in their paintings just like photo tendency and the decreased of taste and spirit. Facing with this situation, we have to think about the relationship of the image culture and realist painting, think about the humanism value and significance of the existence in the society of realistic painting, and make efforts to actively rebuild the spiritual power of the art of painting in our creative practice of art.
