Renzong Toward The Theory Of Text Research

During emperor RenZong’s reign (1023-1063), the military relationship betweenSong and XiXia were in a state of confusion. Faced with the continuing attack andreconciliation of XiXia and the abnormal main battle, Song Dynasty was basically in asituation of passively meeting enemy attacks and defending. However, the complicatedmilitary relationship had some positive influences and functions on literature, and at thesame time aroused the national responsibility and patriotic passion of the literati. Thismade the relationship between literature and nation, literature and military more closer,thus reinforced the applied function of literature. According to this, this essay selects themilitary part which focuses on the military relationship during the reign of RenZong asthe object of study. By analyzing the social background of the military literature whichfocuses on the military relationship between Song and XiXia, the author makes ananalysis, inducement and summary to the subject matter and the literature. Meanwhile,the author makes a discussion and study into a certain representative military literatureauthors, with probing into the influence of military literature, especially to the politicalessay of the Northern Song. Therefore, the developmental matter of argumentation inNorthern Song is further studied. There are five sections in this essay.The first section: From the perspective of social, cultural and literal aspects, theauthor studies the background as well as the reason of military literature, focusing on themilitary relationship between Song and XiXiain in RenZong period. The essay aims tomake clear the social context of the creation of military essay. The tense militaryrelationship between Song and XiXia creates the social context for the XiXia militaryliterature. The reform of imperial examination creates favorable conditions for theprosperity of military literature. The feelings of the scholar pour favorable factors intothe prosperity of military literature.The second part: a deep research on the content of military literature, which focuseson the military relationship between Song and XiXia. The author studies from the viewsof military strategies and tactics. In military strategies, the author put emphasis on fightand defend, offensive and defensive, while in military tactics, the factors of itspresentation are mainly discussed.The third section: analysis the literariness as well as the characteristics of militaryliterature. The feature of the content and the feature of the art are analyzed respectively. The feature of the content manifests in reality and instantaneity, while the feature of theart manifests in emotional coloring and the method of rhetoric.The forth section: individual cases study. Take the example of the Song scholarssuch as Fanzhongyan, Yinzhu, and Hanqi in the period compared with the militaryliterature of XiXia to manifest the style and features of the military literature centering onthe military relationship between Song and XiXia.In conclusion, the military literature of Song and XiXia is the literature initiated bythe current events. Only under the influence of the social context of RenZong dynastyand the complicated military relationship, can the military literature form its distinctiveliterature style and have certain functions to the development of the literature of SongDynasty.
