Taking the trauma experience of Shen Congwen as the starting point, this papermakes a reinterpretation of Shen Congwen’s novels form the perspectives of literarypsychology, sociology, etc. Originally trauma is term in the category of medical terms.At breaking the confinement of medical interpretation, it becomes a tool for thinkingabout violent, experiencing hurt and reflecting on literary ethics and is invested withliterary significance. Experience is the core conception of literary ethics, whoseartistic characteristics and aesthetic function influences the writer’s style ofcomposition and tendency of beauty appreciation. The analysis on Shen Congwen’snovels from the perspective of trauma experience is not only an intrinsic analysis onthe novels themselves, but also an extrinsic analysis on Shen Congwen’s familybackground, experienceMain contents of introduction: The difference between experience and suffering inthe meaning and connotation is illustrated based on a review on the status of presentresearch on experience in Chinese and western literary theories. It emphasizes on thedefining of the category of experience and trauma. From the perspective of history, itsummarizes the relationship between cultural trauma, city trauma and death traumaand the composition of Shen Congwen respectively based on Shen Congwen’s uniqueand legendary experience.Chapter 1 is about cultural trauma and memory in boarder town. Main contents:1. Influence from the trauma in Xiangxi national cultural. The blood running in ShenCongwen’s body is a blending of that of Han nationality, Miao nationality and Tujianationality. The minority cultural background unique to him influences his novelcomposition as an intrinsic cultural trauma experience. The narration in ShenCongwen’s Xiangxi novels compounds cultural trauma, nationality disenchantmentand Xiangxi stories together. 2. Era culture and trauma composition. The backgroundof an ear is the outer drive for the writer’s composition. The declining of familyfortune is the consequence of modern reorganization of Chinese society and has aclose relation with the social culture of an ear. This chapter analyzes the influence of family background and declining of family fortune on Shen Congwen’s Xiangxi novelcomposition.Chapter 2 is about city trauma and the coexistence of anguish and anxiety. 1. Theearlier city narratives of Shen Congwen are in autobiography mostly. They describedthe powerful living condition and sexual repression difficult of control of theprotagonist. 2. Difficult recognition of city identity. In his earlier half life, ShenCongwen underwent the change from a young master to a soldier then to a writer inidentity. The impure city identity of Shen Congwen is the origin of his identity anxietyand identity anxiety has an important influence on the contents and style of novelcomposition.Chapter 3 is about death trauma and always distressful beauty. Main contents: 1.childhood experience and death narrative. Influenced by his childhood deathexperience, Shen Congwen’s writing about death is objective. The deathconsciousness, blended with pastoral sentiment, is always taken as tragedybackground, which gives his novels an artistic character mournful but not stressful. 2.Literature composition under the influence of death consciousness. In ShenCongwen’s world of aesthetic appreciation, the love, beauty and death are interwoven.The writing on death consciousness is another literary style of Shen Congwen’sthinking about life.
