Jia Pingwa's Women In The World

Jia Pingwa, an author with unique personality, made his mark in the late 1970s, and hisworks had a great effect on Chinese contemporary current cultural circles either in thought orin art. Jia had never broken off his literary creation, his passion in art, or his exploring andinnovating in style. His unique creation style attracts a great number of critics, and consensusabout his style was reached, such as country writing, mysterious narrative, consciousness ofhomestead, creation gist and aesthetic direction. The research of academic circles about thefemale images in the novels of Jia is still relatively weak. So far, though there are people whobegin to pay attention to this problem, but specific elaboration and refinement on this topic isfar from enough. Most of his female images review articles are just a short review of theliterature or just an image analysis for a specific work. Take case of master thesis, the study islimited to the comparison between a few works. There are almost no papers which can grasphis female images. This paper analysis his novels mainly from the female images in his works,and adds his study a new dimension.This paper, analyzes his female images systematically according to the specific works,and classifies the images to the following types–goddess image in traditional culture, wildimage who highlights the personality, urban image in vicissitudes, image through the city andrural, image in the bottom of the city. These different types reflect his attitude to differentkinds of female. Based on the analyzing of his works, this paper puts more thinking on thefive kinds of female images, and summarizes the“Diversify”creation method which Jia usedto shape female image. The method is to be seen in the following: show people characterthrough psychological description, reveal people spiritual world through suitable characterperspective, make character full of inherent tension by using symbolism, exhibit characters’vividness by unique writing language. From the standpoint of his life experience,psychological experience, unique aesthetic ideal, culture taste, and the effects of thebackground of times, this paper try to explain the resource of his female images and form aspecial viewpoint of his writing and cognition on female. Finally, this paper expatiates histranscendence and stagnation on female image writing reflected by his solicitude to the femaleand his man-view in explaining female character.Jia, with his own feelings or even speculations, reads the female in traditional point ofview. Though he failed to build a female world with unique characteristic or a classic femaleimage, but his understanding to the female becomes more and more mature, just as the progress of the society and the human civilization.
