Fryderyk Franciszek Chopin is a polish composer and pianist. He is one of the most popular and influential composers and the European representative of Romantic music in19th century. Most of Chopin’s works are piano ones which are simple in musical form with different genres. Although Nocturne, one of the most representative music genres, is well-known for its beautiful melody full of poetic flavor. The other piano works can’t be compared to his nocturne which creates melody, sentiment, and theatricality. The outstanding feature of Chopin’s Nocturne works is sentimental melody. Melody in his works is gifted with many musical images, circumstances and composer’s personal inner emotion. Not only does the performance of the melody require continuity between one syllable with another, but also the melody is beautifully played as if a singer sings a song. Also, this requires us to take advantage of chanting performing techniques. However, aimless pursuit of performing techniques and negligence in the importance of musical melody and chanting feature in works from some pianists flatten all works.Based on the previous researches on Chopin’s nocturne and the music melody as the breakthrough point, the thesis discusses features and styles of Chopin’s nocturne and find out common features from sentence structure, rhythm, speed, strength and tonality. Also, the thesis researches on nocturne’s chanting performing techniques from methods of keytouch, pedal-stepping, speed-processing and rythem-processing practically and theoretically.
