Miscellaneous Poems are no doubt the most representative of Jiang Yan’s works. Thirty Miscellaneous Poems is composed with different styles on the basis of30poets’five-word poems ranging from Han dynasty to the Liusong dynasty. Because of its special form and vivid imitation, the series of poems arose a high degree of attention from many poetry commentators. The preface of Miscellaneous Poems is known as a concentrated reflection of Jiang Yan’s concept of poems; it has influence on the formation of literature criticism ideology of Zhong Rong, Liu Xie and Xiao Tong. The formation of Jiang Yan’s poetic ideology is in separate from his political characteristics. This article explores the relationship between Jiang Yan’s political characteristics and his poetic ideology through the angle of good communication on the current situation. Besides, Jiang Yan’s thirty Miscellaneous Poems have not only recognized and organized the Xuanyan poetry which was not seen important during that time, but also explored Tao Yuanming and idyllic poetry. This is related to Jiang Yan’s combined ideology of Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism, and his strong retirement consciousness. Through the aspects of Jiang Yan’s life experience, his mentality and his works, this article deeply analyzes Jiang Yan’s ideology and Xuanyan poetry, and the relationship between Retirement consciousness and the exploration of Tao Yuanming’s poetry.This paper consists of the following four parts:Introduction, Text, Conclusion and Appendix.The author elaborates the research status as well as the research motives, objectives, and methods.The body of the paper has three parts. The first part analyzes the relationship between Jiang Yan’s political career and poetry ideology. The second part analyzes Jiang Yan’s works through his selection of Xuanyan poets, and indicates Jiang Yan’s Xuanyan poems was derived from his combined ideology of Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism.The last part analyzes Jiang Yan’s retirement consciousness through his exploration of Tao Yuanming and idyllic poetry.Appendix is the Chronology of Jiang Yan’s Works, includes the major incidents of Jiang Yan’s whole life, works, and the poems that typically expose his poetry ideology.
