By studying the origin, function, business model, and activity area of Xie Jiaand its relation with mansions, and by comparing Xie Jia with hotels in mansions, theconclusion can be obtained that the original meaning of Xie Jia is hotel, however, thedomain of Xie Jia included, among others, money, food, lawsuit, trade, and publicsecurity. In those areas, Xie Jia had closely relationship with local government, andplayed an important role as an intermediary in communication between the localgovernment and the public. Xie Jia provided tremendous convenience to people inlawsuit, money and food, which is good for public, even though Xie Jia made a greatprofit from those areas.
