In his works,McDonagh has always use black humor to laugh at the plight of the life.They shocked the audiences through the extremely languages andimages and made the audiences felt uneasy by casting strong doubtson the ethic. In the critics, there has many different opinions about hisdramas. Although you may be impressed by the power of the gloomyof the works, you also can feel the love and hope that the author firmlyconvinced. He always makes you think after reading.Because people are not very familiar to McDonagh, so, in the firstchart, I will provide an overview of McDonagh’s life and his prime works,and the comments about the dramas form inland and overseas.In the second chart, the main contents will talk over the features ofMcDonagh’“sIn Yer-Face Theater”.There are three parts. In the first part,I will introduce this new drama’ s concept、 development、representatives and the main ideas. The second part will talk about thecharacteristics of McDonagh’s “In Yer-Face Theater”. There are threepoints. Firstly, he has expressed his themes by the violence. Secondly, I will discuss his main feature---the style of tragicomedy. This is themain features of his play, so I will focus on it. Here are the conceptof the tragicomedy, and I will take The Beauty Queen of Leenane as aexample. After that, I will talk about the distinction between his dramasand the traditional tragedy and comedy. The third part will discuss thethemes, through which he has expressed his profoundly humanistic care.According to these themes: domestic violence and child abuse、thewriters social responsibility、whether the art can produce salvation.
