Self Recognition Processing Advantages Attention Mechanism Research

Based on the Self-related Information Advanced Theory and EventRelated Potential technology, the processing of the advantage wasresearched in the present study, and interpreted it in biological andphilosophical significance of self-preservation. This study attempts tosupply evidence with the results of some experiments that can notmake sense by other theories, thus the processing mode of self-relatedinformation theory might be promoted. The first experiment observedwhether the attentional blink happened with self-face and other-faceas target stimulus and probe stimulus respectively in the rapid serialvisual presentation paradigm, so as to deduce the resource-allocationof attention between self-information and other-information. Thesecond experiment recorded the accurate rate, reaction time and theERPs of participants’ during their classifying of picture ids. Weacknowledged when the difference between the processing of self-and other-face began using ERPs and explained the advantageprocessing of self-face with ERPs.The results shows:1) In RSVP paradigm, no matter what the T1stimulus was, self-face or not, the influence was very small; however, it’smuch easier for participants to recognize themselves than others’ facesas T2. Attentional Blink appeared when T1and T2were both other-face.2) In the task of categorizing the id of faces, when natural faces werepresented, there was a significant difference between self and others,self-face recognition was much faster; nevertheless, when twisted faceswere on screen, this effect disappeared immediately. Individualsalways recognized natural face pictures faster than twisted ones,whether the id of pictures was themselves or not.3) N2evoked in thefrontal lobe and LPC evoked in the occipital lobe is the index ofresource allocation during processing various stimulus. Self-face pictures evoked larger N2and LPC.
