In history, Germany experienced two grand unifications. The first was in1871whichwas achieved by “Iron-and-Blood prime minister” Otto von Bismarck and the GermanEmpire was established. The second was completed in1990. German DemocraticRepublic was incorporated into the Federal Republic of Germany. The two unificationsare separated in time by more than one hundred years. There are obvious differencesbetween the factors which were contributory to the two unifications. For Germanywhich is a great economic power of today in the world, the two unifications didn’t gosmooth but experienced many frustrations. They made headway amid twists and turns.This paper aims to analyze and compare the determining factors-political and economicfactors which were contributory to the two unifications and to review and summarizesuccessful experience of the two unifications. It has some useful reference andsignificance for researching cross-strait peaceful reunification.
