Chinese Compliment Pragmatic Research

Compliment, which is the positive evaluation, is a kind of frequently usedspeech act. Compliment is an essential part of communication, if it is used properly, itwill narrow the gap between the two sides of the conversation distance effectively, tohelp people communicate better and maintain good interpersonal relationship,therefore, compliments of research is necessary. There are many types of topic andexpression functions in Chinese compliment, so we do research in types, topic,functions and features in more detail. By the corpus analysis we can see, complimentsare very different of different identities, so we do research in gender, age, educationallevel and occupation, and ultimately found that the differences of different identitiesare in frequency, topic, purpose, speech pattern and other aspects, so the behavior ofpeople must be consistent with their status. Compliment response and compliment aregenerally appear in the same time, so we also do research in compliment Responsemodels and strategies. Through the analysis of Compliment in Chinese language rules,and the differences between English and Chinese, we hope to sort out a system ofChinese compliment speech more completely, while avoiding the conflicts in cross-cultural communication arising from improper use of compliment.
