The study of dissertation is based on the paints of Mary Cassatt who are a famous impressionist women artist in the late19th century, and Yan Ping who are a contemporary Chinese women artist. Though Mary Cassatt and Yan Ping lived in different times and social background, the study attempts to resolve the similarities and differences of female perspective in the works by the comparison and analysis with the themes of their paints, and presents rational reflections on the development of contemporary Chinese women’s art.The main themes of Cassatt’s works include Mother and Child, Bath, and Theater. And the main themes of Yan Ping’s works include "Mother and Child","Flowers", and "Small Theatrical Troupe". With the comparison of the images, the reasons of female perspective formation of Cassatt and Yan Ping’s works are discussed separately. Moreover, the intrinsic meaning of the different themes is proposed. The Mother and Child Theme of Cassatt’s work show motherly love feelings with an unmarried and not sterile female painter, while the theme of "Mother and Child" of Yan Ping is fully reflected in the ordinary and emotional reality between the mother and the child. The Bath themes of Cassatt’s work show the women’s self-love, while the theme of "Flowers" series works of Yan Ping is the release of their own romantic mood. The Theatre Theme of Cassatt’s work show the clear self-esteem of women, while the "Small Theatrical Troupe" of Yan Ping’s work is also the expression of their female emotions, conscious and self-awareness of their own inner world.Cassatt and Yan Ping are lived in at different times with different experiences. And the perspective of their paintings also is not same. But from their works, the women’s independence, self-esteem, self-love of the noble personality is expressed deeply, and the women’s living conditions in their times is reflected precisely. Their success in artistic creation is a profound significant inspiration for the contemporary female artists to go further in the way of art.
