According to the personal experiences, the yang type tone sandhi inShanghai dialect has two different sounds, which is different from whathas been described by the scholars before. How does it happen? Is thereany difference? With all the questions above, we have done a surveyabout the yang type tone sandhi in Shanghai dialect. The survey is mainlyabout1) the distribution of the yang type tone sandhi in Shanghai dialect2) the regular patterns of the distribution3) the cause and mechanism ofthe tone sandhi. The total article has been divided into four parts.The firstpart is an introduction to the tone sandhi and the Shanghai dialect as wellas a summary of the former researches on it. The second part is the surveydesign, including the goals, target and the process of it. The third part isthe result of the survey, which shows the different distribution of the yangtype tone sandhi between the old group and the young one. The last partis the analysis of the result of the survey, researching the mechanism andcause of the tone sandhi, including both the factors of inner language partand outer language part.
