There is a close relation between Chinese painting theory and Chinese culture. As an important component of it,"Yi" condensation of the painting theory important characteristics, and is a special exit in Chinese traditional development history. Therefore, the intension, expression and the cause of the unique connotation of " Yi" in Chinese painting theory, these three main points constitutes the main content of this thesis.As an aesthetical catalogue," Yi" contains many things, with ambiguity characteristics. There is a close relation between its appearance, many magical functions and Chinese philosophy theoretical concept. From the orbit characteristics of ancient Chinese painting, the chief contribution of "Yi" is composition a series of normal forms. For example, about "Yi" mode,"Art history in mind", written by Zhang Yanyuan, Tang Dynasty, says " a spineless, were based on conception ". About new idea," Wu Daozi’s theory of painting", written by Su Shi, says "new idea to program, send excellent reason to bold". About poetic imagery,"paint formula", written by Huang Zijiu, Yuan Dynasty, says "heart to think and the spirit of understanding, suddenly see the bird flying between the Yu Ling Valley vegetation, streams, or show or dark, random person, natural scenery all day, no such people. In the meantime, with the shallower to the deeper, in the aesthetic understanding, by the overview to the observed overall, as well as Confucianism, Buddhism, the "Yi" connotation influence, causes the Chinese traditional painting "Yi" aesthetic appear all kinds of complicated situations:from single to dual, such as:the elephant to image, different categories as the inner relation and the formation of new category, such as:theoretical and practical, to write to God." Yi", this category, theoretically reflects the basic concept of essential relation between various things and phenomenon in realism painting. Its evolution, relation and inherent relations with other categories reflect thought processes of Chinese aesthetics. Therefore, the study of aesthetic Connotations " Yi" in Chinese aesthetics is one of the important ways to seek formation and development of Chinese aesthetics.
