With a life full of frustrations and suffering from wars as well as separation, YuXin changed his writing style after he joined the North part from the South. However, his achievement could also owe to the time, bringing him to be a culminant figure in the literature in the northern and Southern Dynasties. To understand YuXin completely and assess his works justly and soundly, this thesis will discuss the subject from where the former researchers have little been involved in. There are four parts:The first part is the preface. YuXin had a lifetime of frustrations, and his style of writing changed after he joined the North part from the South. There are many different evaluations from different reviewers in different dynasties. Since1949, there are plenty of treatises about YuXin, while there are still some blanks and deficiencies, which is the Necessity of further research. The second part is the first chapter of this paper, researching YuXin’s forty four Nilianzhu poems. Lianzhu is a wonder in Chinese ancient literature, which began between the Pre-Qin and The northern and Southern Dynasties, but ended Tang and Song Dynasties. With plenty of allusions which indicate the reality and deep meaning as well as skillful styles, YuXin’s Nilianzhu are very reasonable in logic as well as being the lyric. Compared with LuJi’s Yanlianzhu, LuJi’s poems share the similar frame but enjoy very different aims. There are also some different idiosyncrasies, and weaken the logical reasoning. The third part is the second chapter of the paper, researching the poems. There is an obvious phenomenon of Parallel and poem style in his common poems, with plenty of allusions and other ways of expressing, but it seems natural with any sign of being obscure. Besides, YuXin paid special attention to the meter and rhythm of his poems, making his poems harmonious and pleasing to ears. And his description about sceneries is perfect. According to these analyses, we could find that his poems reflect vast life and his time, expressing his devoted feeling to his life and time. The poems of his earlier stage, although were limited by his life, reflect his real life, especially from his heart and mind, with deep-going meaning, which dwarf all the ones in his time. Later stage of his life he wrote some poems, though some of which are with flatter words, to express his misfortune and these poems are deep-going in their themes. What is more, he enriched the contents as well as themes and subjects."Writing poems to record history" is a style in his later stage, influences many following writers, especially DuFu. In a word, YuXin’s poems, on the whole, can be regarded as "colorful and realistic in the style, feeling mixed with literature"The fourth part is the third chapter of the paper, in which I research YuXin’s Yuefu (a government office in the Han Dynasty for collecting folk songs and ballads; such folk songs and ballads, or their imitation written by scholars) There are some recreations about Yuefu written by the writers in The northern and Southern Dynasties, with characteristics of the time and writers themselves, as well as short passages. On the whole, Yu’s twenty-one Yuefu include various thoughts. Though they are imitated from the former ones, they have their own meanings. In the aspects of artistic techniques, skillful dual, harmonious thymes and meters, intelligent borrowing the ancient poems or words, there are two types in YuXin’s Yuefu, pure and vigorous.According the research of YuXin’s Lianzhu, Poems and Yuefu which have been little researched, we believe Yu should be a wonderful monument of the Six Dynasties without any dissent.
