Wang Wenzhi was a famous calligrapher and poet in the mid—Qing Dynasty. His Tiepaicalligraphy style with unique features made he standed on the history of the Qing calligraphy. Hisrepresentative works were 《The collection of Menglou’s poems》,《The annotations in KuaiyuTang》. After he was punished by demotion and returned to his hometown, he begain his travel lifeand made friends with many people, then became an effect element in Jingkou region. Discussinghis life, social communication, his experience of learning calligraphy and his thought onpenmanship, we can deeply know the history of calligraphy in the mid—Qing Dynasty,as so asthe traditional scholars’ survival circumstances and value choice.His calligraphy theory can be found in 《The annotations in Kuaiyu Tang》, which was anappraisal set and a simple history of Tiexue. In this work,Wang wenzhi advocated 《Lantingxu》and《Getie》, he also made Wang xizhi as a model and included many representative figure ofTiexue in his system. At that time, Tiexue was being decline but stone tables and textual criticismwere both in properity, Wang wenzhi insisted in Tiexue, this phenomenon was very special.Wang wenzhi addicted to collect many famous paintings and calligraphies,his appraisingattitude was very special. The calligraphic appraisal of Wang wenzhi was derived form that ofDong qichang, which meant that calligraphic appraisal should focus on the stylistic charm insteadof textual study. Wang wenzhi’s attitude to Textual criticism was very clearly.This paper was based on the documents and information that collected in a wide rage.According to 《The annotations in Kuaiyu Tang》,the paper investigated Wang Wenzhi’s friendsand social background, carded his life and values. By the study of Wang Wenzhi’s calligraphy andcalligraphy comments, further explained Wang Wenzhi’s calligraphy style and origin in history,and further explained Wang Wenzhi’s attitude to Beixue and Tiexue, soved the problem ofopposition to Textual criticism’s appraisal view.
