On The Significance Of Calligraphy And Knot In Wang Duo's Calligraphy

Wang Duo was born in Mengjin,Henan in 1592,and died in 1652.In learning calligraphy,he only respected Wang Xizhi and Wang Xianzhi.He built the foundation of calligraphy by Shengjiao,and got himself somewhere by Getie.Meanwhile,his calligraphy began with carved rubbings and ended in carved rubbings.Wang Duo was strongly opposed to learning the calligraphy of contemporary people,because he was deeply influenced by the enlightenment of the late Ming and early Qing Dynasty.He developed his own new calligraphy by weeding through the old,and was famous in running script which has distinctive personality and characteristics of the times.Based on the tradition and rooted in the contemporary,this article takes a lot of Wang Duo's works as a clue,to expand the research clues with the support of the aesthetic level which consists of three layers: "No loss of hair which likes taking a shadow with a lamp","irregular imitating",and "likeness and unlikeness".Firstly,by refining the technique skills and the horizontal and vertical stroke radians,I studied the works which he was learned from Shengjiao.Then,I analyzed the relationship between vertical and horizontal strokes and structures from his copy and creation of Getie,and studied the changes of the horizontal and vertical stroke radians.I also explored the whole formation process of its unique style of technique skills,the horizontal and vertical strokes,and other strokes works,and analyzed the change process of the horizontal and vertical strokes in the structures.After that I focused on the horizontal and vertical strokes to find the most unique vertical stroke radians in a few numbers,and studied the process of the font structure of Wang Duo's works which is transformed from a long trapezoid to an inverted trapezoid.Finally I exaggerate and change the horizontal and vertical stroke radians to my flat changeable multilateral trapezoid in my creations.And using the pen skill of inverted pen,center pen point and oblique insertion,I grasp the font structure based the vertical stroke radians in practice,and discuss whether the font structure meets the new aesthetic requirement.Based on my twenty years of running and cursive script creation practice,I did an in-depth research on the whole creation process of Wang Duo's horizontal and vertical stroke radians in my flat changeable multilateral trapezoid,and I has differentiated and analyzed the important influence and the significance of practice of Wang Duo's vertical stroke radians to my creations.In the light of the principle of "practice is the only standard for testing truth",the research and creative practice of calligraphy is innovated by raising problems.This study provides a possible method and way for us to comprehensive inherit the calligraphy tradition and creative creation at the moment,and further promoting the research on Wang duo's calligraphy and the healthy development of calligraphy art.
