The research on the birds word poem is mostly in brief discussion and preliminary exploration but systematic research is Seldom found in the academic circles today. The author of this paper try to outline the ideological content and artistic characteristics of the birds word poem by analyzing the quantity of the birds word poems and studying some special pieces of poem. So, the author give a generic summary and discuss for the birds word poem and the aim of this paper is hoped to contribute little to the study of the birds word poem. And this paper contains the following five parts.Part1.Discuss on the related issues about birds word poem.Bird word is different from the bird singing. The poems which directly simulate the singing of the birds are not birds word poem neither the poems which personified the singing of the birds. The birds word poem contain three basic elements like the bird’ name into the verse, the sound of justice, so personnel. Birds word poem is different from allegory and the poem which expresses the author’s feelings and aspirations. The main character of allegory is that poems have simple stories. The poems,especially regard birds as object, expresses the author’s feelings and aspirations by birds. The source of the birds word poem was earliest found in Shan haiJing and the style of the birds word poem was not formed until Tang Dynasty. And in Song dynasty, the birds words poem evolved into a stand alone style of poem.Part2. Do statistics and brief introduction of the birds word poem in Song Dynasty.The birds word poem, as a stand alone style of poem, was simulated by many poets in the later ages after it was established and denominated by Mei Yaochen in Northern Song Dynasty. Especially the whole Song dynasty, poets competed on their ability to write birds word poems. Base on author’s collection, there are totals333pieces of selected birds word poem and this paper give a discourse on the solo-chanting and hyper-chanting for the birds word poem separately. And the solo-changing discourse mainly focus on BaiShe, TiHu, PoBingJiao, ZhuJi, ZheGo,Gu’E.and so on.Part3. Discuss the ideological content of the birds word poem in Song Dynasty.Although it was established in Tang Dynasty as a stand alone style of poem, the birds word poem mainly focused on the retrospect and allegory during that age. The birds word poem got evolved in Song Dynasty and it began to reflect the social life, extended theme, deepen connotation and intense realism characters. The birds word poems not only reflected the social life in farming and handicraft, the misery of the war and represented the officialdom frustration and life attitude of ancient intellectuals but also expressed the rangers feelings and stray toughness with the aim of cautionary and satire.Part4. Summarize and analyze the artistic characteristics of the birds word poem.Generally speaking, a single birds word poem was only singing for a particular kind of birds in Song Dynasty which usually has the small size and its sentence patterns always consist of triple-characters, four-characters, five-characters or seven-characters to a line. Stereotyped bird words poem is the hybrid structure of birds word and human language and it has fixed tricks and free style. Concerning with the language, with the oral language and dialects, bird words poems have the character of popularity and plainness and most of them are catchy and easy to memorize and singing.
