| Liang Qichao, who is one of typical representatives in the transition of Chinese intellectuals from its traditional phase to its modern phase, lived in the turn of the century that was amidst the winds of change, and his thoughts, along with changing age, changed and developed constantly. Liang Qichao’s thoughts, after Europe-touring in1919, transformed obviously from exploring the system’s shortage to advocating conciliating between Chinese culture and western culture, from adoring science rationality to denying the omnipotence of science, and from adoring the modernity to the introspection of the modernity. Obviously, the Europe-touring played a crucial role in the transformation of Liang’s thoughts, so the paper, attempts to discuss the impact that the Europe-touring had on the thoughts of Liang’s late aesthetics from his transformation.This paper is launched the discussion from four aspects. Chapter1, it describes Liang’s mentality before his Europe-touring. Based on the brief introduction of Liang’s ideological background and political encounter, it lays stress on his ideological predicament, caused by his political frustration, and the society’s ideological crisis because of traditional value’s wane and collapse. Chapter2, it, centering Records of Travels in Europe, describes Liang’s introspection about social ideological condition of European after the First World War. Liang, because of increasing cultural confidence, values traditional culture more as a guide for humans, and attempts to explicate traditional thoughts and to explore their modern meaning with the theory of Life Philosophy, and then these prompt him to make use of strong points and weaknesses of Chinese and western civilization on the basis of cultural comparison. Chapter3, due to the transformation of thoughts, the impact that the Europe-touring has on Liang’s aesthetics displays mainly that he establishes the aesthetics of philosophy of life which centers life based on the thinking of emotion and taste, and that he makes use of enlightened function and emotion of aesthetics to cultivate modern people of integrated personality from his practice of aesthetic and education. Chapter4, because Liang Qichao rethinks profoundly that modern western literature had an effect on the society’s ideology in his Records of Travels in Europe, he pays more attention to the dialectical interaction of truth, goodness and beauty of literature in his late papers, and to the nurtured and shaping function of literature and art for human’s personality. |
