The T’ao-t’ieh and Dragon are the period of the Shang and Zhou bronze decorative arts of the two main themes. The Shang Dynasty is the golden age of development of bronze decoration. The early Western Zhou bronze decoration followed the Shang Dynasty-style and development to the late Western Zhou Dynasty. T’ao-t’ieh gradually decline, replaced by the bronze on the shape of a dragon decoration occupy a major position, and the smaller size of the dragon at this time, and future generations the true meaning of the dragon many differences. In this paper, this time of the Shang and Zhou Bronze Ware and Dragon comparative studies, the interpretation of these two types of bronzes of the decoration technique of expression and its connotation, thus enhancing the understanding of the connotation of the period of the Shang and Zhou bronze decoration and bronze art later cultural influences.The full text is divided into four chapters, as well as the Introduction and Conclusion. Preamble, including academia, research status of T’ao-t’ieh and dragons of the bronzes of Shang and Zhou dynasties, the significance of the topic of this article, research methods and innovation. The conclusion part of the research results in this article is a brief summary and inadequacies.The second chapter is an overview of the Shang Dynasty bronze tombs, the bronze shape and bronze of T’ao-t’ieh and dragons development, the Shang Dynasty is divided into a period of three immediate early providers, middle provider and the late Shang, Early Shang can be divided into er li Gang lower period and er li Gang upper period. The division of this period is the development pattern of the bronze decoration, also more conducive to a variety of literature references.The third chapter is a broad classification of bronzes of Shang and Zhou dynasties the T’ao-t’ieh and dragon pattern. Prior to classify in this chapter casting technology described in the Shang Dynasty bronze decoration and the image on the bronze inscriptions. Then explain the different part of the T’ao-t’ieh and dragons and various functional described, in order to increase T’ao-t’ieh and dragon the understanding of the pattern. The T’ao-t’ieh different forms of popular classification are by through different times. Dragon is to start with the visual angle made two classification sides of the front face of dragon and left or right faces, further cited the two types of dragons manifested in many forms.The forth chapter is the decoration of the main the T’ao-t’ieh and dragons these two types of bronzes of the Shang and Zhou dynasties. Mainly in bronze on the directionality and the functional characteristics of visual angle, in order to explore the similarities and differences of these two types of ornamentation.The fifth chapter is about T’ao-t’ieh and Dragon connotation of the Shang and Zhou dynasties. The first interpretation of the Shang and Zhou dynasties is the animals of the different manifestations and the way of draw different animals. Traced from the period before Shang and Zhou dynasties and find the first type of these two types of ornamentation. Secondly, the T’ao-t’ieh services for the Shang and Zhou festival, its unique ritual and performance practices of other animal ornamentation.
