Jinling Meditate On The Semiotic Interpretation Of Poetry

"Meditation on the past at Chin-ling" is a Chinese classical poetry theme consisting in a large number of poems. The research object of this paper is the poems of meditation on the past of Chin-ling. This paper discusses the general creation situation of the poetry theme, and analyzes the meanings of the representative images or symbols to point out the combination and polymerization principle among the images o symbols. Furthermore, it discusses the cultural connotation in the poetry theme.The vicissitude of Chin-ling in Chinese history has aroused poets’strong emotions.The rise and decline of Chin-ling is the main content of "meditation on the past of Chin-ling". With meditation on the past, the poetry theme reflects bad time at present and the remembrance of boom periods. Stone City, Qinhuai River, Tai Cheng, New Pavilion, The Rain Flower Terrace, The Phoenix Palace and The Black Garment Lane are some classic images which gradually contain regular and fixed meanings in these poems.In the related poems, many images form a unit, arousing the aesthetic beauty of time and space. In terms of time, these poems combine the ancient and the present perfectly. While in terms of space, the arrangement of special images brings out temporal imagination. Under the melancholy mode of remembrance of the past and sorry for the present, poets tend to create poetical atmosphere by applying sad images or symbols of Chin-ling. This is the important principle of polymerization, and imitating predecessors’ writing is a synchronic feature of this poetry theme.To a large extent, social context determines the meanings of symbols. This paper discusses the contact between the connotation of the poems and social mental state through the analysis of cultural implication of the poetry of "meditation on the past of Chin-ling". Except the general poetry features of meditation on the past, the dual mode of the ancient and the present, emotionally beautifying the past by valuing the past and degrading the present also become its common characteristics. Besides, the focus in space is on the decadent former capital, thus, the partial understanding on Chin-ling dominants the entire picture. Symbolizing historical event and stereotyped singing are important features of this kind of poetry. In addition, these poems contain the emotion of individuals and the nation, and the historical reasonableness impacts the emotion and the aesthetic style of this poetry theme.
