Fantasy has been developed very well in zhe westerner country, while it is quite poor in china, even though a few outstanding works have gradually appeared now. Character is the soul of the novel. How to create characters directly influence the success or failure of the novel. In this thesis, fantasy character was selected as the research object, so as to undertake intensive research on the Chinese children’s fantasy.In the introduction part, the main research object was defined. The distinction among fairy tale, science fiction and children fantasy was made. The value and significance of selecting character as research object were listed. The current situation of Chinese children fantasy was outlined.In the second chapter, portraits in the Chinese children fantasy were classified, which consist of hero, sprite, ghost, monster, witch, magician, and so on.In the third chapter, the character rhetorical strategies in Chinese children fantasy were elaborated in detail, which consist of defamiliarization, mutual blending of fairyland and reality, conversion of space and time.In the fourth chapter, by contrast research with western children fantasy, the drawbacks of the character rhetorical strategy in Chinese children fantasy were found out. Then some opinions on improving current situation of Chinese children fantasy were proposed, such as seeking the deep feeling, handling the fear correctly, enriching the character of Chinese children fantasy, and so on.In view of the research of this thesis, achievements and drawbacks of Chinese children fantasy in the past years were discussed. So as to offer some useful advice to the writer of Chinese children fantasy, and more and more outstanding works of Chinese children fantasy will come into the world.
