"Waiting" is a basic type of human psychology, it is an experience caused by group unconsciousness. From human’s appears,"waiting" goes through the human’s production, labor and increasingly complex social relations. Art comes from life, so there are a lot of works that reflect "waiting". In Chinese ancient literature works,(this paper mainly refers to the poetry, novel and drama three types), there are a large number of works reflect to the action of "waiting"and the mind of "waiting". If we divide "waiting" with the purpose of wait, it can be concluded to three levels:love waiting, political waiting and ethical waiting. The reality of waiting is full of anxiety and anguish, but when it be regarded as a kind of aesthetic object in literary works, it has a unique aesthetic meaning. In the time dimension, on the one hand, the time in "waiting "shows long and fleeting paradox beauty; On the other hand, due to the result of the waiting is not affirmatory, then "waiting" itself became a process. However, even if it’s a process, it also witnessed the joy, anxiety, expectation, hope and despair of subject, it is the essence of the symbol of existence, and this process has surmounted aesthetic feeling. In the space dimension, main body and object in isolation caused space, the distance in time also brings a psychological distance. Distance makes the aesthetic without utilitarian, weakened the bitterness of "waiting" itself, appering the aesthetic feeling of mystery. In psychological dimension, due to the waiting starts with hope, but the result is not sure. The experience of subject is both of hope and disappointment. Commonly, it must be more deep-seated reason that caught specific behavior to happen. So the root leads the ancient Chinese to wait is fatalism, karma and Confucian philosophy of eternity. Of course, in the ultimate level, the waiting is the same as death and loneliness, mutually. Due to the different living environment and the way of thinking, therefore, Chinese’s view of waiting is different from western’s. For the first time,"waiting" in western’s eyes has metaphysical meaning. In contrast, to the Chinese,"waiting" is emphasized on the theory, rational pragmatism.
