Pablo Picasso’s painting thoughts was formed in the certain social and cultural circumstance of20th century, meanwhile, the emergence of irrationalism also influenced him, thus his painting moved towards anti—tradition. More importantly, Picasso’s painting had close connections with the development of the aesthetics of ugliness.This essay focuses on the appreciation of ugliness, combines with Picasso’s paintings, analyses his painting thoughts from the perspective of ugliness. Firstly, the essay expounds the background of his life, presents the new changes in the field of philosophy, aesthetics and art. These factors are the objective basis of Picasso’s painting thoughts. In the second chapter, it describes the development of ugliness and ugliness in modern aesthetics and artistic practice. In the third chapter, based on the theory of discord, it analyses ugliness in Picasso’s paintings, and different techniques that he used in order to express ugliness. In the fourth chapter, it elaborates Picasso’s painting thoughts, which are the source of creating ugliness. Finally, this essay sums up Picasso’s painting ideas, and analyses the impact of Picasso’s art to the audience and other artists briefly.
