Abstract:"Friends Through Thick and Thin", a short story written by Chinese contemporary writer Wang Zengqi (1920-2008), vividly describes the daily folk life of common Chinese people through its plain, concise and rhythmic language; meanwhile the author adheres to his aesthetic view and spiritual pursuit as a literary man throughout the writing. In the process of translation, the translator explored and approached rendition by studying the parallel texts and related materials. For preserving the work’s authentic flavor of folk life and its aesthetic view, local customs, historical figures, traditional arts, etc. should be the inalienable elements retained in the translation. Also, some adjustments to the surface structure of the source language are made in order to achieve a more vivid, effective and faithful version.
