<Theatre> is a modern magazine in Taiwan1960s, which mainly introduces western modern movies and theatre plays.<Theatre> was born with Taiwan’s modernist movement in the1960s. Modernist movement in Taiwan1960s is a very big movement which is reflected on Taiwan’s poetry、music、paintings,etc. The first part of this paper analyze the conditions of modernist movement in Taiwan1960s:Taiwan government’s political pressure、U.S. aid culture、double breaking on culture. Comparing Taiwan Modernism with Western Modernism, we can conclude that Taiwan modernism is "late but precocious".In the circumstances of Taiwan modernist movement,<Theatre>was born. The second part of this paper discussed<Theatre>’s editors、contents、and the reason of breaking. Also the importance of<Theatre> was revealed:It first introduces western modernist movie and theatre plays into Taiwan. Compared with<Modern Culture>,<Theatre>’s editorial features were revealed too. The last part of this paper discussed the performing practice of<Theatre>which made great contribution to Taiwan1960s modernist movement.
