From the perspective of Relevance Theory, dissyllables, which express their meanings through the composition of monosyllables, themselves are the reflection of optimal relevance."Compounds with the meaning inclined to one word" as a pragmatic phenomenon, their production lies in the following elements:they depend on understanding, base on some object and subject conditions such as the degree of relevance、different context and so on, go through the process of pragmatic adjustment, use the context assumption of optimal relevance and finally, in the way of conventionalization and standardization, develop into "Compounds with the meaning inclined to one word" which are independent from outside context. In fact, for those parallel disyllabic compounds which include opposite parallel ones and similar parallel ones, whether their meaning are inclined on one word or which word’s meaning will be inclined are the choice and reflection of their context information. And the context reflection on such compounds takes on four ways:"composite matching","semantic equivalent replacement","synchronic equivalent context replacement","diachronic equivalent context replacement". As a very special language phenomenon, Chinese "compounds with the meaning inclined to one word" has possessed a greater research value over time. In ancient Chinese, there are some parallel disyllabic compounds whose meanings change according to specific context, in actual understanding of such compounds, one word of them is inclined. And many scholars have never stopped focusing and studying such language phenomena since the earliest times, leaving a great number of documents and materials. This thesis comprehensively and systematically initiated the literature review on "Compounds with the meaning inclined to one word" and also worked out a collection--index of the past studies, which will be beneficial for future study. This thesis, based on analyzing the weak points of the past studies, made full use of the relatively new theory--Relevant Theory and explored the cause and mechanism of "Compounds with the meaning inclined to one word" from the perspective of pragmatics, which succeeded in explaining the cause of such language phenomenon. In addition, this thesis unprecedently studied the context reflection of "Compounds with the meaning inclined to one word" by the way of combining the dissyllable and the relevance of context. This thesis can be divided into five chapters and they are as follows:Chapter One is the Introduction which brings into the research object, the value of this research, the research method and the data.Chapter Two is the literature review which introduces the past studies on "Compounds with the meaning inclined to one word", the characteristics of different historical periods, the focus point about such phenomenon, the evaluation on the past studies and the research space.Chapter Three is about the cause of "Compounds with the meaning inclined to one word". This chapter analyzes its different causes of different schools and states that dissyllables, which express their meanings through the composition of monosyllables, themselves are the reflection of optimal relevance. The subject and object basis of "Compounds with the meaning inclined to one word" also is included in this chapter. At last this chapter analyzes the pragmatical adjustment and the final forming process of "Compounds with the meaning inclined to one word"Chapter Four is about the context reflection of "Compounds with the meaning inclined to one word". This chapter argues that "Compounds with the meaning inclined to one word" is the optimal relevance of context information and it also analyze the four context reflection:"composite matching","semantic equivalent replacement","synchronic equivalent context replacement","diachronic equivalent context replacement".Chapter Five is the Conclusion.
