Chinese Have Negative Phenomenon Research

We are studying a kind of rhetoric phenomenon. For example:Behind the door, a man can operate his mind best. A man is not like a horse, which need to live together.It’s a kind of rhetoric phenomenon, which describes the not-similar-event (X is not as Z as Y). We call it the Negation of Metaphor Presupposition. While it has many kinds of manifestations, every one of them can abstract a not-similar-event. The not-similar-event of last example is:MEN DON’T NEED TO LIVE TOGETHER LIKE HORSES.In1980s, this rhetoric phenomenon once cause the discussion in academic world. Some scholar see it as a kind of metaphor, and called it the Negative Metaphor. Others have different opinion. They believe there’s no similarity between the two objects of this phenomenon, so it is not a metaphor. This is the central issue of controversy.Besides this controversy, these researches simply described its definition, expression and rhetoric effects. And limited it in rhetoric domain, mainly discussed its expression. There is no final conclusion until now.After research, we believe this rhetoric phenomenon has different structure, mechanism, and rhetoric motivation. So it’s not a kind of metaphor. We call it the Negation of Metaphor Presupposition, according to its expression and mechanism. Which means we presuppose a metaphor, then negate it for some rhetoric effects.We reconsidered the nature and definition, beside which, we attempted to study the nature, structure, type, mechanism, motivation, and effects according to the theory of presupposition, the theory of Metaphor and Category in Cognitive Linguistics. We hope to confine the nature, motivation and mechanism of this phenomenon, distinguish the Negation of Metaphor Presupposition and Metaphor, the Negation of Metaphor Presupposition and other expression. This thesis includes seven chapters.Chapter1:Introduction to the expression, definition of it, and the research value and research methods.Chapter2:Commentary on previous research.Chapter3:The structure and types of the Negation of Metaphor PresuppositionChapter4:The mechanism of the Negation of Metaphor PresuppositionChapter5:The rhetoric motivation and effects of the Negation of Metaphor PresuppositionChapter6:The eternality and temporality of the Negation of Metaphor PresuppositionChapter7:The criteria of metaphor and the Negation of Metaphor PresuppositionThe last part shows the conclusion of this thesis.
