Based on the research of the book named Tu Guan Di Bu(Account of Local Chiefs), this paper focused on the analysis of the situation of these local chiefs in the Ming dynasty, especially by the19th year of the reign of Ming Emperor Jiajing(1540). These analysis contain the amount of the documented local chiefs and the geographic distribution of them. By a series of analysis, this paper make a basic summary of some characteristic reflected by Tu Guan Di Bu, including the inherits of the authority, promotion, Jie Zhi (deputy),routine and the relationship of the official sent out by the court and the local chiefs. The whole situation reflected by Tu Guan Di Bu is very complicated.
