Editorials, as a kind of argumentative articles, have been paid great attention by media workers and managers. Moreover, editorials are also of great importance to the external publicity media in China. However, as a non-English-speaking country, China and its external publicity media maybe cannot produce English editorials as "native" as media in western countries (especially in the USA) do, which may weaken the communicating effects of the Chinese external publicity mediaTherefore, this article takes the English editorials in the Washington Post as the object of research and selects80editorials between June,2011and June,2012. By reading and analyzing these editorials, the author sums up the characteristics of their topics, lengths, headlines, structures and words, hoping that editorial writers of the external publicity media in our country could get to know the characteristics and writing skills of the English editorials in America’s eminent quality newspapers, and that this article could provide more detailed advice on English editorial writing.
