Chorus has become one of the favorite art forms in our whole nation dueto its unique symphonic nature and harmonious beauty. An important part of campusculture in middle schools, choral art has profound and irreplaceable impact on thestudents growth, leading to self-awareness and comprehensive skill development inadolescence and thus a more beautiful and artistic life. However, the middle school students are at the phase of voice mutation, thedevelopment of vocal cords cause the voice change: clear and melodious voice gets dimand coarse, singing range narrows, high tones are unachievable, voice lacks stamina andstability and is easily tired, and vocal cord is congested and cannot make a sound, etc. These are the problems to face in the training of middle school chorus. Therefore, it isvital to find and apply scientific training methods to protect the students’ larynxes andachieve good choral effect.Based on teaching practice and research, the author discovered a set of trainingmethods to achieve good results:1. Group training. Divide students into different parts according to their voicemutation feature. It is beneficial to apply proper content and focus based on vocalquality in order to well perform and express the songs.2. Strengthening breathing exercises. Guide the students to start from natural andrelaxing state, then gradually add pure breathing exercise such as slow inhale and slowexhale, quick inhale and slow exhale, and breathing training for vocal exercise;3. Strict;Considering the voice mutation phase, we lower the voice volume invocal exercise. It is important to have a wonderful sound in heart before singing, thestudents only have to mimic that sound, this way, the weak throats are protected, headresonance are readily found, and the students’ bodies and hearts are unified in abeautiful and harmonious singing world.4. Phonation resonance exercise. Train the students to use different cavities of thebody for resonance, and adjust the usage of that cavity based on the musical part.5. Systematic ear training and music appreciation. Create a beautiful musical worldfor the students, awaken their ears, make them get used to the music language.6. In the pleasant atmosphere, make these training and learning content acomprehensive and unified one. 7. Select proper musical works and make proper adaption. It is impossible tochoose those works with wide vocal range and grandeur for middle school students withtheir special singing range and vocal quality. Instead, choose works with proper vocalrange and difficulty extent and vigorous style. In order to broaden the students’ view, wecan also adapt some choral works of high art value. Therefore, as long as we use scientific training methods and put our heart and soulinto it, we can present a choral performance with very high standard.
