Scholars hold different opinions upon the categories as well as the definition of Japanese passive voice. They own reasonable accountancies for the categories according to their point of views. Based on the previous theories, this dissertation aims to analyze the passive voice in terms of two aspects:Passive Marks and Passive Meaning, and in a broad sense, it classifies Japanese Passive Voice into Complete Passive Voice and Incomplete Passive Voice. Besides, the definition of Japanese Passive Voice is given a further exploration. This dissertation presents a broader way of classifying and analyzing the definitions, which is different from the previous narrow one. And this study may do a great favor to Japanese translation. Previous classifications regard 「レル」「ラレル」as Passive Markers of Japanese Passive Voice, however, not all of Passive Markers with 「レル」「ラレル」can express passive meaning. On the contrary, sentences without passive markers such as「レル」「ラレル」can express passive meaning as well. In Passive Voice in a Euphemistic Way, Muraki shinjirou discusses other passive markers except「レル」「ラレル」This dissertation reclassifies the Japanese Passive Voice in terms of two aspects including Passive Markers and Passive Meaning, and also conducts a further analysis as well as exploration according to this two aspects.
