LiYu’s intention was summary the previous point of view and establish new rules for the future generations of writers in the book of XianQingOuJi. At the same time, LiYu believed that the structure is the most important part of his theory of drama system.Li Yu’s theory of dramatic structure has broad sense and narrow sense. The former stressed integrative of the thinking of theatrical creation and meant all thinking activities from writer’s creative impulses to the end of work.In the whole process of writing the script, dramatist must pay particular attention to some of the basic principles, such as alertting to irony, preventting absurd, getting rid of stereotype, discernmentting of virtual and real and so on. On the other hand, Li Yu’s theory of dramatic structure mean text structure of the work In the narrow sense, including three writing principles which are establishing the core events and figures, reduce ing the description of clues in Chapter I and the entire contents of Chapter VI of XianQingOuJi.In a word, Li Yu’s theory of dramatic structure in the broad sense meaning drama’s intent must be positive, thinking must be fully, subject matter must be fresh and description must be unique. In the narrow sense, Li Yu thought a successful script must have a clear central idea, as little as possible clues, compact narrative style and special ending program.It is a new perspective of thinking Li Yu’s theory of dramatic structure that was divided into two parts broad meaning and narrow meaning. This approach would help us better understand the relationships between Li Yu’s theory and his works.We found that both consistency and inconsistency between them through quantitative analysis of the book of LiWeng’s Ten Theatrical Works. Furthermore, we found that there have more consistencies and fewer inconsistencies between Li Yu’s theory of dramatic structure in narrow meaning and his scripts; his theory of dramatic structure in narrow sense is the opposite. The reason for this situation is the former related to the conception and selection of materials, and bound by the audiences’aesthetic needs. On the contrary, the theory of dramatic structure of narrow meaning related to organizeing plots and some performance programs, and there has more initiative for playwright. There are both consistency and inconsistency between LiYu’s theory of dramatic structure and his works,but we can not take those differences as a basis for evaluating his playwrights or theory value in the history of classical Chinese literature or Chinese literary criticism. We think that the appropriate method is observe achievements of LiYu’s theory of dramatic structure and his works within their respective fields, namely the history of classical Chinese drama and theory of classical Chinese theater.LiYu’s work has many flaws,but he had contributed to the popularization of classical Chinese drama from the contemporary writing point of view,.On On the theoretical side,the book of XianQingOuJi summarized and systematized the theory of classical Chinese theater to a new peak,and LiYu’s theory of dramatic structure in narrow meaning has a very important impact on subsequent theatrical and other genres’ creation.
