As a director in Hollywood originate in German, Douglas Sirk, hadn’t beennominated by Academy Award even once. In Hollywood, Sirk was just beenconsidered as a director who was the expert in filming family and soap operas. But atthe1960s, he was been valued by Europe from the early idea aesthetical of "CahiersCinéma", especially Jean Luc Godard, to the influence direct to Rainer WernerFassbinder, and been rescanned by the scholars Feminism and Psychoanalysis, beingconsidered as an idol by the director of new generation such as Martin Scorsese,Jonathan Demme, Quentin Tarantino, and Todd Haynes, etc. But when people began topay attention to the artistic value of his films, he retreated from the moviedom.Sirk was just a minority director, different from the normal comment. This textholds the point that as a symbole of Hollywood family melodrama, the creative ideaof him has great experimental value. By analysing the classical films of Sirk in hisdifferent periods, this text discusses how Sirk used the Theory of Sow Discord andBalance to let him set in a position, criticize capitalism, telling what happened in theAmerica Society. Meanwhile, let the audiences who grown up with Hollywoodmelodrama accept, and let him become a master of Hollywood melodrama. This textdoesn’t treat Sirk’s creative idea as an independently mental element, but united hisculture background, aesthetic value and art theory, analyse particularly hisrepresentative films to tell synthetically how Sirk used a period special to build up hisart style and art language, and the influence of film aesthetics and Feminism film. This text put forward some points of view original, and make sufficient logicaldemonstration base on enorme original text. In the process of tidy and expound theTheory of Sow Discord and Balance, based on his special period, formalism, psychoanalysis, labour value etc, this text shows the expression of experienceindividual, the study of image thought by Sirk, and the author also has got a newconnaissance and a sublimation of the theory about him, which can make a cleardirection for my practice in the future.
