It lasted98years and had11emperors since Khubilai Khan built the Yuan Dynasty. The Yuan government had imitated and issued several types of paper currency during this period. In all previous paper currency reforms, however, there were only zhongtong baochao and zhiyuan baochao that could be circulated. It lasted nearly four hundred years until the Yuan Dynasty. The Yuan Dynasty, the first dynasty treated the paper currency as the basic monetary system, had accumulated a wealth of experience of issuance and management of paper currency. The monetary thought of Yuan China, which was complied with the objective laws, had experienced a process from beginning to the collapse. In the implementation process of paper currency, there were a lot of figure and unique thought arising, including Yeluchucai,Wang Yun, Ma Heng, Liu Xuan, Wang Yi.The monetary system of Yuan retained a unique position in the economic history of the ancient China, therefore it is worthy of being studied for the monetary thought during the period. This paper describes and discusses the monetary system of the Yuan from some aspects, including the history reasons, every period of development, the main thought, policies and representatives.
