Brief Analysis Of The Scramble Of Russia, Canada And U.S. For The Arctic Region And The Arctic Strategy Of China

With the global warming, temperature rising and ice melting, Arctic-the "barren land" which is far away from us opens its mysterious veil:it is rich in natural resources, mineral resources and biological resources, scientific expedition value, military value and the full opening of the convenient passages. Human beings focused on this area that once no one showed any interest in. Suddenly the cold Arctic becomes a well-loved place, and quiet Arctic ocean begins to boil. All the Arctic states extended their power and started fierce competition in the Arctic. To adapt to the needs of the situation, the relevant countries have established their own arctic strategies for their own interests to maximize profits for themselves from all aspects in the Arctic, in which the actions of Russia, Canada and the United States were particularly attracted. In order to declare their Arctic sovereignty, these three countries put forward the detailed Arctic strategies from many aspects:political, economic, military, sovereignty division, environmental protection and so on. So they took actions, strengthened the military forces and stepped up the scientific expedition activities in the Arctic area, so as to maintain their own interests best in the Arctic region. It has not only the history inheritance,but also the real considerations of the appearance of Arctic sovereignty. Facing the complex international environment and variable geopolitical situations and the major world powers’competition in the Arctic regions, as a developing country and a country that is influenced deeply by Arctic changing, China should also put forward its own Arctic strategy as quickly as possible, and stand in the interests of all the human beings to maintain its own national interests, so as to deal with any possible change in the international society over the problems of the Arctic region. Through analyzing the various important values in the arctic, this paper first digs the real reasons why the three countries strove for the Arctic region. And then it makes comparision of Arctic strategies of US, Canada and Russia, which the paper analyzes deeply, and hopes to provide practical revelation and references for analyzing the Arctic situations, establishing and implementing Arctic strategy with Chinese characteristics.
