All along, the carriage of dangerous goods by sea as a central part in the area of transportation has illustrated their specialties, which have drawn wide attention from the fields of both the shipping and the maritime law academy. Among them, the issues of obligations and responsibilities between carriers and shippers for the carriage of dangerous goods by sea especially become the hot topics in the recent years.The paper, based on civil legal relationships and deriving experience from the corresponding international conventions as well as authoritative judicial precedents of other countries, starts with the definition of dangerous goods and focuses on the study of the obligations and responsibilities between carriers and shippers for the carriage of dangerous goods, the shippers’notify obligations, as well as the corresponding responsibilities of the shippers when they give a breach of notify obligations.The current paper is made up of four chapters. Chapter one:By comparison of the definition of dangerous goods from international conventions and municipal law, the paper presents the proper definition of dangerous goods. Chapter two:The chapter lists the relative legislations about the obligations and responsibilities between shippers and carriers for carriage of dangerous goods by sea, which pave the way for the next chapters. Chapter three:In this chapter, the obligations and responsibilities of shippers on contract of carriage of dangerous goods by sea are discussed in detail, and several suggestions about this topic are proposed, which is the most important content in this paper. Chapter four:In this part, the issues about obligations and responsibilities of carriers for carriage of dangerous goods by sea are analyzed, and some personal opinions and suggestions are also proposed based on the issues. At last, I sincerely hope that the paper is beneficial to the transportation business and the development on the civil legislation of carriage of dangerous goods by sea.
