The carriage of dangerous goods by sea plays an important role in thefield of marine transport. It has a long history and during the long periodmany laws and regulations were enacted.In particular, in the field of the carriage dangerous goods, shipperstake special responsibilities which are different from shippers who carrygeneral goods. Maritime Law refers to responsibilities of shippers ofdangerous goods without no details. In international conventions,shippers of dangerous goods are particularly referred because shippersshould take more responsibilities.This essay begins with relative laws of China. In the second part ofthis essay, I introduce different definitions of dangerous goods indomestic laws and international conventions. In the third part, I analyzethe liabilities of shippers of dangerous goods and give some practicalsuggestions to make our Maritime Law more clear.In this essay comparative analysis, demonstration analysis and caseanalysis are used to analyze the liability of shippers.I hope by analyzingthe responsibilities of shippers of dangerous goods I can give somesuggestions to make our Maritime Law more practical and protect the parties’ legitimate rights.
