The Cultural Conservatism Thought Of Qian Mu In The Post-May Fourth Era

Qian Mu is an important representative in the Chinese near modern cultural conservatism ideological trend. His academic achievements are extensive and profound, have a deep affection and love of Chinese history and traditional culture, his whole life in the study of traditional spent in history and culture. The context of the current academic rise in Neo-Confucian, Some scholars believe that Qian Mu thought is belong to have the tendency of the new Confucian, and form controversial of whether Qian Mu belong to Neo-Confucian. This paper attempts to jump out of this argument, and plan to put Qian Mu’s cultural thought into the historical background of modern Chinese thought changes, especially put it in the background of the post-May Fourth Era to explore the meaning and value of Chien Mu Cultural Conservatism.This article altogether includes five chapters. In chapter1, as the introduction of the article, introduces the background of thesis writing, research status, research methods, and innovation and the difficulty, etc. In chapter2, mainly study the development of Cultural Conservatism in China after the May Fourth Movement, by comparing the Chinese context and Western context, study the cultural background of ideological formation of Qian Mu, and highlights the rise of China’s new cultural conservatism and the main features, in post-May Fourth Movement. In chapter3. discussion of Qian Mu cultural conservatism in the post-May Fourth era. including Qian Mu’s thought have the nature of post-May Fourth era, the main content of Qian Mu Cultural Conservatism. In chapter4, introduces the ideological positioning and influence of the cultural conservatism of Qian Mu thinking in the post-May Fourth era. In chapter5. mainly on the basis of the previous part to put forward some contribution and limitations about Qian Mu’s culture conservative ideas.In modern times. Flow should we view China’s modernization, and How should we rationally look at the role of traditional Chinese culture in the modernization process, how to smooth convergence and continuation of traditional and modern, how to find the value of traditional culture in traditional culture value system reconstruction work, and so on, are not open around the problem. We hope to find some inspiration through the study of cultural conservatism ideology. Qian Mu’s thought, is an attempt in this regard. In the context of globalization, China wants to return to China purely traditional and indigenous cultural system is unrealistic, we have to do is to eliminate the opposing view of Chinese and Western culture, moment of modern trap vigilant and critical in order to obtain the new development of Chinese culture in the future, and in the basis strengthen the positive interaction of Chinese and Western culture, about discussion about the traditional culture,we can do something to open up the road of modernization with Chinese characteristics and make due contributionThis article attempts to show, Qian Mu’s thought is unique in the Cultural Conservatism in the post-May Fourth era, he is a master of Chinese history and traditional culture, and he provides the basis of the methodology of traditional and modern convergence and continuous. Qian Mu’s Cultural Conservatism ideology is different from other cultural conservative scholars, he advocated the construction of Chinese culture have to go to dig the valuable traditional Chinese culture. Instead of copy the Western or total Westernization or Chinese and Western syncretism, for us to better find our way forward in the modernization process.
