James Madison, the father of the constitution of the United States, has played a decisive role in the formation of the government system of the country. His contribution mainly lies in the theoretical debate on the democracy and republic:his support to the republic has brought the title of republic to the United States, while his theories on the democracy have promoted the formation of a democratic government featuring a representative system and the check and balance. As a result, the two opposite thoughts-democracy and republic-turned to be cooperative and inclusive to each other in the United States, which gave birth to the most distinctive government in the world. It was under the guidance of the above theories proposed by Madison that the United States has managed to grow from weak to powerful in the course of development. Such a kind of amazing growth in the long history of the United States must be credited to the outstanding thoughts and far-reaching considerations demonstrated by the writers of the constitution, whose unselfish contributions and insistent arguments were the source of the long-standing charm and power of the constitution of the country. The thoughts on the democratic and republic systems advocated by James Madison, an important representative of the federalists, have became an essential part of the history as the foundation for the formation of the government, and is surely to continuously contribute to the growth of the United States. Therefore, this research project will focus on the development and practice of the above thoughts of Madison and their great influence in the optimal selection of the government system by the United States.
