In the internet age, electronic databases play an important role in our productionsand lives. The industry of databases has been a great deal of development andoccupied a leader position gradually. However these databases have made itincreasingly convenient to access and handle large quantities of data, also easy totheft of these databases. As the Internet has no national boundaries, electronicdatabases are more easily duplicated and used illegally, the consequence is moreserious. Legal protection of these databases must therefore be even more aggressivethan the protection of traditional information sources. Thus, intellection propertyprotection has been added as a new subject within the study of law. In China, anelectronic database which constitutes a Compilation could obtain the copyrightprotection．But the copyright protection is limited to its selection or arrangementwhich manifests the originality and does not involve its contents which need theurgent protection．It leads to insufficient protection for electronic databases．On thebalance of interests play an important role on the design of system, we shouldreexamines these main legal protection models, analysis of the balance and underbalance.In consideration of the situation of our country, to transplant a new law fromforeign countries,so our country should suspend the sui generis right protection, andchoose a row that fit the situation of our country very well: protect databases throughexisting law, reconsitution the system of database protection, emphasis on integratingthese protection model, bring related rights into the system of copyright protection,should be established of which copyright protection as the principal protection systemfor the databases; and the protection of law on anti-unfair competition, contract lawprotection are the complementary protection system.
