A Research On Hu Jintao’s Livelihood Thought

Livelihood issue has been paid special attention by President Hu Jintao since he cameinto power. He has inherited and further promoted the Marxist view of people’s livelihood.Basing on modern Chinese people and the Party’s Three Generation Leader Community’slivelihood thought as well as combining the contemporary Chinese special nationalconditions, the livelihood of people thought for President Hu has been gradually formed.President Hu has given priority to the livelihood of the people, aiming to ensure that all ourpeople enjoy their rights to education, employment, medical and old-age care as well ashousing, so as to concern on people’s sufferings and needs all the while. Meanwhile, thegovernment should on one hand try their best to obey the principle of exercising power forthe people, showing concern for them and working for their interests, and on the other handtransform the abstract concept of people’s livelihood principle into the specific task aboutdeveloping for whom, what to develop and how to develop.President Hu’s people’s livelihood thought always considers the fundamental interestsof people as the highest criterion, reflecting the Party’s governing idea of “people first”. Histhinking also makes improving and protecting the people’s livelihood as starting point andthe foothold of the Party’s work, from which the great goal of development for people andachievements to people sharing is shown.The first part of this article introduces the theoretical origin of Hu Jintao’s people’slivelihood thought. Using Marxist humanism as the theoretical foundation, he puts forwardthe important thought of "people-oriented", which is in accordance with Mao Zedong, DengXiaoping and Jiang Zemin’s thought. The second part introduces the process of formationand development of Hu’s people’s livelihood thought, mainly from the raising of thethought to establishing the solution of the livelihood problems as the Party and nationalwork’s center. What’s more, the Party’s governing idea has transformed into the principle ofexercising power for the people, showing concern for them and working for their interests,and the functions of the government has converted from "management" to "service", so as to make sure that people’s interests are always in the first place and are always the mostimportant. Then the systematic people’s livelihood thought is developed.The third partintroduces the main views of Hu’s people’s livelihood thought, including economy, politics,culture, society and ecology.The fourth part introduces the great achievements of Hu’sthought by solving the livelihood problems. The fifth part introduces the theoretical andpractical significance of Hu’s people’s livelihood thought.Hu’s people’s livelihood thoughtis the outstanding achievements of the localization of Marxism in China. It has importantinstruction significance for our country’s livelihood career. In addition, it has providedimportant safeguards to speed up the building of a harmonious socialist society and awell-off society.
