Thailand’s ongoing political crisis which roots from protesting against the2005protests2nd general election win of former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra in2005is still stirring the country and its society. The crisis caused several massive impacts to Thailand’s society. No one could have imagined that the prolonged public mass protests which was first organized by Mr. Sondhi Limthongkul, a former TV show host, could have led to a vastly gathering of supporters against Mr. Thaksin and his infamous "Thaksin Regime". These anti-Thaksin supporters were eventually called People’s Alliance of Democracy (PAD) or "Yellow Shirts". No one could have thought that after the event of Bloody May in1995that the Thai army could muster enough support from within its constitution and collectively act against Thaksin regime through seizing political power from the elected government by conducting a coup d’etat in2006. Also, no one could have believed that the other extended mass protests which was led by the United Front of Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) or Red Shirts, an Anti-Coup d’etat and Thaksin’s support group, could have resulted in another bloody battle in2010.Both of these incidents and other political events during the period of2005until2011have not only brought in the change of Thailand’s political appearances, they have also set huge impacts on Thai society. The gap between the people supporting Yellow Shirts’and the Red Shirts’supports have become wider and wider. Unfortunately, those citizens and scholars who put themselves as unbiased or neutral parties are unjustly believed and labeled by the Red or the Yellow to be against them. The third, the fourth, or any other parties are in such reluctant positions. The main point of writing this paper is to explain Thailand’s political crisis to foreigners or other interested parties. The author of this paper is not concerned about who would be the next person or party to assume the office of the Prime Minister. Nor is the author curious about which party would be in charge of Thailand’s government. What I hope to see is what kind of policies we could implement to bring Thailand back to its former self. A country that is tolerant and very much generous with other countries. Although there have been several general elections since2005, the problem seems to be neglected and remains unsolved. As a result, this paper will be focused on examining several scenarios on how the Thailand’s political crisis has come to its breaking points. What are the reasons behind the stories? What will the effects be on Thailand’s society once the crisis is over? And also provides some suggestions that might help solve the problem.
