On Social Workers Involved In The Mediation Of Traffic Accident

With China’s rapid economic growth and the improvement of people’s living standard, the number of motor vehicles and drivers is growing fast and accordingly, the number of contradictions and disputes caused by road traffic accidents increased year by year. Not satisfied with the processing results, both parties of accidents easily sharpen conflicts, triggering mass block road and petition cases, which causes a bad influence on the living of local people and the social stabiity. Therefore, road traffic accidents mediation also gradually become the focus of hot/concerned social problems.Mediation needs to reach both parties’s agreement, that is, mediation can be carried out only if both parties agree to do so. Thus, it is a must for one party to offer the intent of mediation, which is approved by the other party, there is probably the following mediation work. However, in practice, the willingness to make mediation of a party is often not personally put forward to the other party, even if one party offers the mediation requirement, it is hard to get the response from the other, which in turn will make the other party misundersand, thinking that he has enough reason to boycott the intent of the mediation. And due to the traffic police’s shortage of policemen and the lack of professional experience in mediation, a considerable portion of cases are not successfully mediated. Thus, professional social workers, with their professional working skills, involving in traffic accidents mediation, is a beneficial supplement in traffic mediation work during the current transition period. In this paper, the author, combining his pratical experience of mediation work, tries to make an exploration on the feasibility and operability of social workers’involving traffic accident mediation. The purpose of this paper is to testify that through the involving of profession social workers, the mediation can be more successfully solved, both parties of accidents can be more satisfied and in a result, the social harmony can be greatly improved.
