Samuel P.Huntington hold the view that the origin of conflicts between variesregions and countries are due to the clash of civilizations, but not the ideology oreconomic reasons. This paper is a qualitative research to answer the ideological rootsof “The Clash of Civilization” theoretically and reality.Researches have shown that Samuel P.Huntington’s “The Clash of Civilization”stands a distinct political stance, and provide the theoretical basis to the historicalstage of international politics after the end of Cold War. The viewpoints of “The Clashof Civilization” are originated from “American Exceptionalism” and “ManifestDestiny” which provide a theoretical basis for America’s expanding its worldinfluence unilaterally, and the legitimate basis of interventionism. SamuelP.Huntington Samuel P.Huntington hold the view of denying existence of universalcivilization, and the point of thinking “Confucian Civilization” and “IslamicCivilization” shall joint to resist “Western Civilization” is no basis, for the ignoringthe difference between the two civilizations, not to mention the China’s rise shallbring the danger to the civilizations.There are two main goals that this article tries to achieve. One is to elaboratecomprehensively the intrinsic motivation of the theory of “clash of civilizations” interms of intellectual history. And the other is to elaborate theoretical system, academicvalue and realistic significance of Huntington’s view in the way of critical reflection.
