Currently,“soft power”,“the ability to achieve goals through attraction ratherthan coercion”, draws growing attention in terms of world politics. Nearly everycountry makes great effort to exercise and accumulate its soft power to build up itsglobal presence through the delivery of information, culture and values.As a world power, the United States, is leading the way in promoting soft power.This thesis is to illustrate the relationship between American soft power and itsinternational education, which is a pivotal tool to disseminate its ideology and fulfillpolitical objectives.With a long history of developing soft power, US is fully aware of theimportance of implementing soft power by its pioneering international education andexchanges. Thus the United States provides constant support for the enaction ofinternational education laws, the establishment of exchange programs and the boomof cross-border education, which in return, bring greatly positive influence onAmerican soft power and the country as a whole.
